With an Irish/Italian/Portuguese heritage, I've been to England, Ireland and Italy on a family vacation. I especially liked Italy — the places I stayed, the food. Even the driving was exciting. Who knew that even the Vespas weave and pay no attention to the speed limits? I have a list of places I'd like to visit and that list has just gotten larger since I've been working at The Travel Collaborative. I organize the travel brochures here and now I know I have to add Tahiti to my list and stay in a thatched hut on stilts in the clear blue water. Looking at more brochures may be an expensive proposition. |

From Downtown Boston
Take Storrow Drive West.
From the left lane, exit at the Longfellow Bridge to Cambridge/Kendall Square.
At the end of the ramp, turn right and cross the Longfellow Bridge to Cambridge.
As you come off the bridge, bear right on Broadway toward Kendall Square.
Just beyond Kendall Square, go through the traffic light and cross the train tracks, noting the raised pedestrian bridge that connects two office buildings.
Immediately after the pedestrian bridge, bear right (45 degrees) onto Hampshire Street.
Follow Hampshire Street as it passes through Inman Square.
At the Cambridge/Somerville city line, Hampshire Street becomes Beacon Street.
Continue along Beacon Street to the corner of Washington Street.
120 Beacon Street is the last building on the left before the Washington Street intersection, with a video store at the ground level.
Two-hour on-street parking is available on Beacon Street.
From the North/Route 93
Take Route 93 South to Exit 28, Sullivan Square/Charlestown.
Bear right on the long exit ramp.
At the bottom of the ramp, turn left onto Broadway at the traffic light.
Stay to the right, and turn right at the first light (at Wesley's Bistro) onto Cambridge Street, which becomes Washington Street.
Take Washington Street for 2 to 3 miles, following the signs as the street jogs left and then right around Union Square.
As you approach the intersection of Beacon Street, watch for the Wine and Cheese Cask on the near right corner and Panini on the near left corner.
The Travel Collaborative is at 120 Beacon, the four-story red brick building on the far left corner of the intersection, with a video store at the ground level.
Two-hour on-street parking is available on Beacon Street.
From the West/Route 90
Take the Mass Pike/Route 90 to Exit #20, Allston/Brighton and Cambridge.
Follow the signs to Cambridge, which will take you to River Street.
Take River Street approximately 1 mile to Central Square, where it intersects with Massachusetts Avenue.
At the traffic light, proceed straight across Massachusetts Avenue; at this point River Street becomes Prospect Street.
Follow Prospect Street to the fourth light and turn left onto Hampshire Street at the Hess gas station.
Follow Hampshire Street as it passes through Inman Square.
At the Cambridge/Somerville city line, Hampshire Street becomes Beacon Street.
Continue along Beacon Street to the corner of Washington Street.
The Travel Collaborative is at 120 Beacon Street, the last building on the left before the Washington Street intersection, with a video store at the ground level.
Two-hour on-street parking is available on Beacon Street.
By Public Transit
- From Harvard Square or Sullivan Square, take Bus #86 to the corner of Washington and Beacon streets. (Or, from Harvard, stroll through Harvard Yard to Kirkland Street —which becomes Washington Street at the Somerville city line —and walk 7 blocks to the corner of Beacon).
- From Porter Square or Central Square, take Bus #83 to Washington
Street near the corner of Beacon.
